CNH Industrial is the second-largest agricultural equipment manufacturer in North America by revenue (after John Deere), operating the Case IH and New Holland Agriculture brands globally. CNH’s autonomous-farming posture is structurally distinct from John Deere’s locked-in approach: rather than building autonomy into Deere-only equipment, CNH acquired Raven Industries in Q4 2021 (~$2.1B), giving CNH the autonomy and precision-ag IP stack to compete with Deere across mixed fleets.

Raven Industries, headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was for 65 years a pioneer in precision agriculture — autosteer, boom control, application control, and software for mixed-fleet ag equipment. The acquisition closed the autonomy gap between CNH and Deere.

Driver Assist Harvest Solution. Automation technology for the tractor platform, leveraging Case IH’s harvest technology with Raven Autonomy integration. Provides coordinated control feature that allows the Driver Assist Harvest Solution to chart the path and speed of the tractor pulling the grain cart alongside a combine harvester during an “unload on the go” operation. Keeps the tractor perfectly in sync with the combine harvester when unloading grain — gives the combine operator seamless control over the unloading process. Commercially available for both Case IH and New Holland brands.

Driverless Tillage Solution. Advanced Perception System and Remote Command & Control from Raven Autonomy; functions with no operator in the cab. Can be operated remotely from a mobile tablet device. The operator can plan and execute precise, automated missions with consistent agronomic results monitored from anywhere. Combines the Case IH tractor and tillage platform with Raven autonomy.

Baling Automation. Industry-first Baler Automation on New Holland large square balers. LiDAR sensor scans the windrow in front of the tractor for density, volume, and direction. Tractor and baler use this input to automatically control steering, forward speed, and baler settings to ensure the baler follows the windrow precisely for accurate crop feeding. Case IH will also offer the baling automation feature.

Case IH Trident 5550 with Raven Autonomy — Driverless Spreading Solution. Announced at Farm Progress Show 2022 in Boone, Iowa as “the agriculture industry’s first autonomous spreader.” CNH and Raven debuted the autonomous Trident 5550 applicator. The driverless spreading solution provides coordinated control for the high-clearance applicator, with Raven’s Perception System and remote command & control.

Strategic posture

CNH framing (Derek Neilson, President Agriculture, December 2022 Tech Day): “The agriculture industry is faced with the challenges of time, costs, constrained operational windows, and a dwindling labor force. Autonomy will become an integral part of farmers’ operations everywhere… We believe that Autonomy and Automation technologies are fundamental to the future of farming. The CNH posture is multi-brand and mixed-fleet compatible — distinct from Deere’s locked-in approach (See & Spray only on Deere sprayers). Raven’s pre-acquisition customer base was multi-brand; CNH is preserving that positioning. The contrast with AGCO PTx (per units/agco-ptx.md) is meaningful: AGCO PTx is explicitly brand-agnostic retrofit, while CNH-Raven is brand-agnostic via Raven platform + CNH OEM brands.

Deployment status (mid-2026)

Per the field guide’s standing G-017 (US row-crop autonomous machinery operational scale beyond Deere), the structural finding from this scan: announcements exceed deployments at every player except Deere See & Spray. CNH’s autonomous portfolio is more concrete than competitor announcements but operationally narrower than Deere’s row-crop See & Spray coverage.

Differentiation from AGCO PTx

CNH + Raven and AGCO PTx both position as mixed-fleet-compatible alternatives to Deere’s locked-in approach, but they take structurally different paths:

The PTx Trimble JV is meaningful: Trimble was the original precision-ag platform vendor with multi-brand standard positioning. PTx Trimble positions Trimble as a multi-brand standard within the AGCO orbit, while Raven inside CNH is multi-brand-legacy but now CNH-aligned.

Data governance and right-to-repair context

CNH cloud-mediated data flow parallels Deere’s locked-in approach — the autonomy stack requires connectivity to CNH/Raven cloud, and operational data flows to the vendor. The FTC-Deere right-to-repair action (2025-2026) is the policy backdrop that affects CNH equally; CNH is one of the equipment vendors named in the broader right-to-repair conversation alongside Deere, AGCO, and John Deere’s competitors.
